Nativo Crafts

The 2015 AMAs (American Music Awards) were yesterday, November 22nd, and as expected, it was a great show!

Taylor Swift didn’t attend the ceremony, but still dominated the AMAs, winning three prizes, including album of the year and song of the year. One Direction was also a big winner, taking home the prizes for favourite group and artist of the year, for the second year in a row.

The night started off with a spectacular dance medley by host Jennifer Lopez that had us all pumped up from the very start.

From there, the AMAs were more like a music festival, with great performance after great performance by the public’s favorite artists.

Selena Gomez owned the room with her rendition of “Same old love”, while The Weeknd literally lit the stage on fire while performing “The Hills”!

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were joined onstage by singer Leon Bridges for a powerful performance of their collaboration, “Kevin.”

On a more serious note, Jared Leto made a moving speech about the Paris terror attacks in Paris, before introducing Celine Dion who sang Edith Piaf’s “Hymne a L’Amour” in honor of all the victims. “France matters. Russia matters. Mali matters. Syria matters… The whole world matters. Peace is possible,” Leto stated.

On a throwback moment that we loved, Alanis Morissette performed her breakthrough hit “You Oughta Know”, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year; only this time she was joined by Demi Lovato, who also performed her hit “Confident” earlier in the show.

Surprising us all with a great performance were Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor, who ended their turn on the stage with a steamy kiss at the end of their duet “Marvin Gaye.”

One Direction and Taylor Swift weren’t the only multiple award-winners: Nicki Minaj and The Weeknd both scooped two AMAs, with Minaj taking home the hip-hop album of the year prize for the third time in her career.

Ariana Grande gave a wonderful performance of her new song “Focus” while her grandma danced in the audience. Grande was also the surprise winner of best pop/rock female, beating crowd favorite Taylor Swift. In her sweet speech, she thanked her nonna who accompanied her to the show.

Coldplay also performed their new song “Advenure of a Lifetime” live for the first time, and were joined by dancing gorillas on stage and colorful trippy visuals. It was definitely fun!
