The holidays sometimes fill you with extra pounds and an extra helping of guilt, but you can fix that! Learn how to prepare a green smoothie for a full body detox.
December can be a month of excesses. We all take advantage of the Holiday season to eat and drink without restrictions. Sometimes you can even be irresponsible, forgetting the toll that sugar and rich foods take on your health. But you know you have a free pass… One that lets you get back into shape and detox your body and that is January.
Detox smoothies are a great way to reset your organism
These shakes, which are green in most cases and are rarely consumed with joy, give your body a break. A kind of rest after eating so much over the holidays.
The different combinations of ingredients for these detox juices are endless: you just have to select and mix the best ones. Fortunately, there are many Latin American fruits and veggies that are packed with beneficial properties; and one of them is pineapple. Learn how to make a detox smoothie with this delicious tropical fruit, and get ready to cleanse your body.
What are the benefits?
This smoothie is perfect to detox your organism and purify your body. Its main ingredient, pineapple (a fruit of South American origin), is effective in combatting water retention because 85% of its composition is actually water, which improves your rate of urination.
Plus, it’s rich in vitamin C, a potent antioxidant that prevents premature aging and makes your skin look radiant and beautiful. It also strengthens your immune system and improves the rate of iron absorption in the body. It’s also rich in fiber, which makes it a great option for people with constipation.
Zucchini, like pineapple, has lots of water (96%), fiber, and vitamin C… ¡And it’s an ingredient from the American continent! Thanks to its potassium content, it facilitates the elimination of toxins.
On the other hand, celery is a great depurative. It’s good for dissolving kidney stones, purifying your blood and some even say it helps when you want to lose weight (it’s so rich in fiber that it easily satiates your hunger). It’s also antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and diuretic.
Spinach is responsible for the green color of the smoothie. This veggie with a high water content also has lots of fiber. It contains minerals like potassium and calcium, which help eliminate water and strengthen bones, respectively.
And last, but not least, comes peanut, a Latin American legume. It’s high in calories, but it’s hugely nutritious, giving you the necessary energy to stay active during the day.
Ingredients
- 1 cup chopped pineapple
- ½ medium-sized zucchini
- ¼ cup spinach
- 1 celery stalk
- 1 cup water
- 10 unsalted peanuts
Preparation
- Blend the zucchini, spinach, and celery with the water.
- Once it looks smooth, add the chopped pineapple and blend again. If you want your smoothie to be extra refreshing, you can freeze the pineapple beforehand and use it frozen.
- Incorporate the peanuts and blend again. They will give a creamier texture to your smoothie.
Don’t forget to drink your smoothie as soon as you make it. This way, it won’t have time to oxidize and you’ll enjoy the properties of all the ingredients to the fullest. It’s recommended to drink it in the mornings but, if you can’t, store it in an aluminum container to keep the light out, and keep it in the fridge for up to 12 hours.
When you’re making detox smoothies, you can choose any ingredients you want. The important thing is mixing raw vegetables with fruits and seeds. These shakes are certainly not miraculous, but if you lead a healthy lifestyle they do help to “clean” our bodies. Make the most of this magnificent combination to pamper you body and start the year with good habits… What are you waiting for?
